Last summer one of our veterans caught 53 salmon in 6 hrs, another caught 47. I would venture to say that it would be difficult to find one of these young heroes’s that wouldn’t love to do that. The fishing is great but the most important thing that we’re offering isn’t fishing but healing. I have worked and played in the Alaskan wilderness for 40+ yrs. being in the wilderness is very therapeutic. I have a background in counseling and a mentor said to me some time ago “I can do 2 yrs. worth of work in 2 weeks in the wilderness”. For some reason the walls come down very quickly in the wilderness, and that is the key to healing! Creating an atmosphere where our troops can talk about their experiences. Our goal is to send 4 veterans out in a boat with a guide and Pastor or Counselor, and see what happens. Last summer we did this and after only one day we had very significant results. The troops are still thanking me.
Eagle Crest Ministries is a 501 c 3 non profit and we need your help! If we depend on the V.A. (Gov.) for the help our troops need we will have another “Post Viet Nam” (many of our Viet Nam war Veterans are still very much hurting) and lead very unproductive lives. If the American people don’t help who’s going to do it? A very good recent example is The Katrina disaster, the American people did more by far than the Gov. Leaving it to the Government to throw your tax dollars at it and then complain about the tax increases, seems to be the American way.
The help that you give us will go much farther and do more good than any Government effort. The amount of troops that we will be able to help next summer will be determined by the resources that are donated to us. |
